Dyon-axion Dynamics
The discovery by Witten [ 1] that a magnetic monopole of minimal magnetic charge acquires electric charge -e0/2~r in a 0-vacuum has led to deep insights into the fermionic structure of monopoles [2]. In this note, we point out another implication of the Witten effect this effect induces a coupling between monopoles and axions. We compute the energy of the axion ground state in the field of a ma...
متن کاملA Conformal Field Theory of a Rotating Dyon
A conformal field theory representing a four–dimensional classical solution of heterotic string theory is presented. The low–energy limit of this solution has U(1) electric and magnetic charges, and also nontrivial axion and dilaton fields. The low– energy metric contains mass, NUT and rotation parameters. We demonstrate that this solution corresponds to part of an extremal limit of the Kerr–Ta...
متن کاملQuantization of Dyon Charge and Electric-magnetic Duality in String Theory
We analyze the allowed spectrum of electric and magnetic charges carried by dyons in (toroidally compactified) heterotic string theory in four dimensions at arbitrary values of the string coupling constant and θ angle. The spectrum is shown to be invariant under electric-magnetic duality transformation, thereby providing support to the conjecture that this is an exact symmetry in string theory.

where θ̄ = θQCD + θQFD which violates CP. From the experimental bound on the neutron electric dipole moment , |θ̄| is required to be less than 10. This is “the strong CP problem”. The axion solution of the strong CP problem is to introduce a dynamical field axion (a) so that θ̄ is settled very near 0. In this case, one can study the following Lagrangian below the electroweak scale, after integrati...
متن کاملA Theory of High Electric Field Transport
The Generalized Quantum Langevin Equation (GLE) approach to the quantum transport of many electron systems is developed to study the high electric field transport. Two GLE equations, one for the center-of-mass momentum and the other for the center-of-mass energy, are obtained. The non-linear transport effects due to the presence of a high electric field are reflected directly in the memory func...
